Where to look for a pension?

My husband passed away in February this year and left an AVIVA Pension Plan. The lump sum payment is minimal and I think I would be better of using the full Fund value to shop around for a more competition pension option.
I am loathed to go down the IFA route as, since my husband's death I have been inundated with calls from 'prospectors' who think I may have inherited a fortune! I have been completely put off this route and I'm sure this would also involve disproportionate fees.
Are there any pension comparison sites where I could go to look at pension products? Or non-fee based ways of finding out what's out there.
Thanks for any help.

There really is no such thing. The pension is only a tax wrapper and there are literally thousands of possible investments that can go inside this wrapper. What suits one person will not suit another as it's down to individual circumstances.
How much is involved?0 -

None of which are likely to be IFAs as IFAs dont do that sort of thing.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi,
well i have done a search and found some sites which list top 10 pensions and other similar pension tables.
click here for one of the websites allowing you to filter through all pensions, company pensions, personal pensions etc
click here for another site allowing you find pensions which are suited to what you are looking for
hope this helps

Firstly commisserations for your loss.
Secondly, on death the pension can be paid as a cash lump sum. Unless he had crystallised any benefits you should get the same lump sum as you would invest.
You would be better off taking the lump sum and then paying into yor own personal pension as you would get tax relief on your own contributions and get an extra 25% at source.
How much is the fund value, how much is your annual salary?
Finding a good IFA is hard, not as hard as it used to be though.0 -
Try unbiased.co.uk if you don't have a family member or friend who can recommend one.
And i agree with D, it isn't IFAs who have been cold calling you. They don't do that, so anyone who does is who to avoid. Also avoid anyone from your bank.0
