  • Correction, my mistake. You are OVERSPENDING by £62.75 per week. (I didn't spot the minus sign in the result!) So you cannot afford to eat. Therefore you need to recover about £150 in savings per week to eat.

Re: Nursery Fees - can you get the tax free nursery vouchers through work? Basically where you sacrifice a proportion of your salary but get it in childcare vouchers instead, so you're not paying tax on that amount. It could cut your nursery bills by 20-25%.

Thanks to everyone who has responded on to SOA - your suggestions and advice are most gratefully received. I am going to attempt to address each point as follows

Rent/mortgage - this is actually a bit complicated and is due to us being in a shared ownership property, which we attempted to purchase outright and then found out we could not due to a covenant on the lease. As such we are in limbo at the mo until the housing association and mortgage co resolve things. when they do we can then look at selling and moving, hopefully somewhere cheaper.

nursery - my DS goes to nursery 4 days a week and to his nan's one day a week. In terms of childcare vouchers, my employer does do this, however only with one nursery company, who have a nursery nearby, but i was not impressed with the nursery - clearly out for the money at the expense of the child it seemed. unfortunately there are no other family members who could have our son, my family live over 230 miles away and OH family all work. OH mum seems reluctant to have DS for anything more than once a week, so dont know what else to do on this one.

mortgage protection - will definitely look into finding something cheaper.

various insurances incl BG - will definitely cancel these and also DS savings.

Sky - this is the sticking point as I know my OH will not want to give this up - he told me that we are in a 12 month contract, dont know where we stand if we cancel now, but will investigate and badger OH.

I think these are the main points, but i will jot down what everyone has said and worked through all the points.
    thanks dubgirl x

PS - I realise we need to do something about having something set aside for clothes, shoes etc.
