Urgent Advice Saught

Hi All
Right, need your expert advice with what to do with our situation.
We have lived in our house for four years in june. The people we bought our house with never gave us a forwarding address for mail, only a phone number for us to text when ever any arrived.
We would get mail for a Miss xxx, as they couple were married, but it was the same first name, I texted them to ask if it was her maiden name, they denied it, and had never heard of this person. So I binned the mail.
And had been binning the mail since then, till last May. It was a DL Collections looking for over a £1000. I emailed them to tell them not known at this address, and they updated there records. However twice a year I still get a statement for this woman sent to my address, they say they need to send a statement SOMEWHERE for there records. However this time I received a second letter from a ScotCall saying someone would be round to do a doorstep collection for the £1000. I have obviously emailed them both again telling them that this person DOESNT LIVE HERE. Anything else I can do to stop the mail completely? And will this affect any credit ratings on the property?
Any advice gratefully received. HELLLLLP!

Hi FLC
Follow Elvis's advice on this one and return to sender. We advise against opening mail not addressed directly to you as it can technically be a criminal offence. You could enclose a note with the returned letter expressing your annoyance at the continued correspondence; unfortunately the debt may end up being sold on to others who pursue the same line of enquiry.
It is a little like calls from people who have got the wrong number - irritating but impossible to legislate against completely.
Your property does not have a credit rating, but people do. Beyond the irritation value of these letters, they do not affect you in any way whatsoever. We work as money advisers for National Debtline and have specific permission from MSE to post to try to help those in debt. There is a template letter on here somewhere that removes their perceived right to attend the property without an appointment. (I'm sorry, I can't find it)
Take a section stating that the person does not live at the address and hasn't since X date, add the section about withdrawing permission to attend the property and add in an anti-harassment clause. Warn them that further threats will be reported to the police, as will illegal attendance at the property.
Print your name rather than sign it, but make it clear you aren't playing games with them. Also inform them that the person's record should be updated to reflect the change - you will not tolerate them selling this on without a very celar statement that the debtor is not at your address and that you don't know where she is.
Then relax and move on. Good luckSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

We dont have a federal law regarding opening of mail not addressed to the recipient. Frankly, if it comes through my door, I have every right to open it. The offence is when and if you decide to use that information for your own gain, such as applying for a credit card using the pre-prepared paperwork that sometimes arrives. Mark 'Not Known' on the front of it and send it back unpaid postage. Alternatively, you have every right to open it, contact the company and tell them directly that the recipient is not known at your address.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Legally the creditor has to service notice at the last known address, so they will continue to send notices to your address.
However Scotcall need a fairly swift reminder that they are not allowed to visit. They do however have no powers at all if they turn up and you can call the police to remove them. Make a formal complaint and CC the OFT.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
