Who do I go to?

Hi, I have checked my credit report online and am pleased to say that I have absolutely no worries on there. I gave a house up (voluntary repossession) just over 5 years ago. This doesnt show up on my credit report at all. However, yesterday I received a letter from a Henderson, Booth and Snell asking me to pay them £26,691.33 For the house or make them an offer to pay something by the 15th May. (letter was posted through my door on the 12th May). I gave the keys back to Halifax in 2007 as i could no longer afford to live in the house alone. I have checked around the Internet and apparently after 6 years no one can ask you for money for debts? should I ignore this until it's officially 6 years ago?
Either way, I only earned £12900 last year and have a 17 month old son so money is tight. Who should I go to to seek advise or help with this?
Thank you in advance for replying and for reading.

The law is different for mortgage shortfalls. It is at least 12 years for those, not 6.
See the info in this link ----> Mortgage shortfalls
There is some other helpful info and letters in that link for dealing with these, so please have a careful read.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

That is exactly the information I needed. Thankyou.
Should I go to the CAB to get help with all of this? I really doubt I'm going to be able to pay them anything at all with my income. I get help from HMRC with child and working tax credits currently and I'm in rented accommodation with no real assets.
I finished paying my car payments in February so I only have my car as an asset. I definately need my car. Would they take my car?

I think you have good advice regarding the above, the credit report - could it be that the report is not showing your previous address hence no details about this???0

I'm afraid I can't offer you any advice on your situation but I'd definitely recommend going to the CAB. This kind of situation is exactly what they're for and they'll help you find a resolution.0

Yes assj, every single address I've had since 1998 are showing on my credit report. Including one I'd forgotten about living at.
I have absolutely no adverse credit on my report.
