Who to invite to hen do...?

Been talking to my head bridesmaid about my hen do... I am hoping to have a family thing for the day, have something for lunch and perhaps a spa treatment or something and then have something for tea, and go out in the town for the evening.

For the evening, this will include my work friends and uni friends, but I am a bit stuck. If you're coming to the hen do does that mean you have to be invited to the wedding? I can't really think of anyone who I would want at my hen night who I haven't invited, but I could ask friends from uni who I'm not really close to but it would be nice to see them. Bit stuck and need advice please :)

I wouldnt invite anyone to the hen do who you werent inviting to the wedding. I fact I feel a bit bad that 2 of my hens are 'only' getting an evening invite!

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you, I just wanted someone who is in a similar boat ie. getting married to let me know their thoughts! I think I'll stick with who I originally planned to invite. Our evening list is getting way out of hand...

Do you think this is the general way of thinking, ie invite to wedding = invite to hen party? I've got plenty of time yet to work this out but it's something I'd never thought of.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I agree that if invited to the hen do then they should be coming to the wedding. I don't however think it's necessary to invite everyone coming to the wedding, it may just be your closed female family and friends.
  • I also had this dilemma and most of my hens are also invited to my wedding, but due to numbers some are evening guests only, which do feel bad about but they are married themselves so sure they understand (I hope lol!!) x

I (well my CBM) is planning a proper hen do for me, a weekend doing stuff etc. but I will probably have a work hen do at some point too! Tbh thou it will mainly be an excuse for some drinks (our colleagues are split over 3 offices) and a good time. Nothing partially hen about it! Although there is another bride who is getting married a month before me, so I said we could do a joint night out to save people the money (and in someone's case embarrassment) of it twice.

You could always do something like that?

Thanks guys. I am happy to have just one night as to be honest there won't be a huge amount of people. Only my best friend is coming to our ceremony too, me and my fianc! agreed that uni and work friends should be evening only.. We had to draw the line somewhere, our numbers are already huge!
Thanks for the tips tho, I will keep my hen do and guest list the same! It won't include all the female guests, just my uni friends, my work friends and then my fiance's mum and sisters, and my mum!

I got invited to a hen do by an old work colleague when I wasn't invited to the wedding. It was a big office and she just explained that she was on a budget so was just having a very small wedding but we were all very welcome at the hen do if we wanted to come. Didn't end up going but wasn't offended at being asked to just the hen. I think as long as you invited them personally and explained something that it would be fine - maybe just getting an invite through the post or something with no mention of why you were invited to one but not the other would be different.
