Is it possible to get defaults removed from your credit file early?

It was difficult and rather stressfull, firstly i would make sure all debts are paid in full, then simply write a nice letter to each explaining why you defaulted, they will write back probably rejecting but call that your starting point, get sar from each one do a lot of research oodles of it on the net and plan each letter well but always be gratefull apologetic understanding cooperative and above all determined. There is no law that they have to put this on your file just a financial responsibility.

I asked O2 to remove a four year old ~£300 default and they said no, basically.

A company can remove a default if they choose, but they'd usually need a very good reason for doing so, i.e. if it wasn't properly administered. I don't know what the law says regarding removing them early. I'd imagine it's frowned upon if not illegal.

I've read so many times that defaults have less of an effect with age, especially if you've borrowed responsibly since. That seems to be true as I've been accepted for a few products lately that I'd have been turned down flat for a couple of years ago.

Just under two years to go until my defaults drop off.
