The oul lad in that clip used to live around the corner from my Mum in Ballyclare years ago. He really was a bin hoker then and obviously old habits die hard. He was as my Dad says " not the full shilling" He lodged with a man called Fruity George but thats another story :rotfl:
Maybe he was the front runner for todays Dumpster divers
So thats my claim to fame......I know the bin hoker :T :cool:How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

Jayen4 have you a link to the forums you mentioned?
Hi Miserly Mum.....
I think the British term for dumpster diving is called 'Skip Raiding',or 'Bin Diving' (although that one has overtones of searching for peples private info....which I would never do !),or variations of those....
The 2 sites that I'm on are: www.dumpsterworld.com or www.uksr.net .. The people on D World can be a bit fierce with 'noobs',but don't be scared of 'em (the loons),just give as good as you get. Have a read around the posts first. I have had to slap one or two of the members who should know better...lol. I know how to 'back 'em down' a notch !
The British site (uksr, net) is a rather more civilised place...;)
I'll turn you all into dumpster divers.....just stay out of MY bins,o.k?? lol0 -

We went to the local scrap yard to get a few bits and pieces for my battered up old mini. I always fancied an electric window squirter (rather than the old push button) and was overjoyed to find an Austin Alegro with the wiper mechanism intact (even better was that somone had already removed the bonnet so access was easy). I carefully removed the wiper mechanism, the water bottle, the electrics (which were removed much less carefully). I also remembered my mums Allegro had a broken tail light so I removed this as well. It was only after we had paid for the bits and we were leaving the scrap yard that we noticed a man was pushing a bonnet into the back seat and then he got in and drove away ......
Big oops ... I hate to think what happened the next time it rained .... So big apologies to whoever owned an Allegro and suddenly found they had no wipers!!!

I think we can all agree, to stop this country turning into USA2, that the best term is - BIN HOKER!
And of course, you should all know that a successful bin hoker mustn't be caught hoking bins. And if you do catch someone hoking bins, it is your civic duty to shout BIN HOKER at them. That should be a law.
IvanOpinion, that's a great story, the Austin must've been badly parked if that gives you a defence!0 -

I had an Austin Allegro once. I parked it beside a skip i had rented and during the wee small hours someone bin hoked the bonnet! Slightly upset at my fellow human beings for acquiring my bonnet witout even asking i managed to purchase one the following day at the local scrapper. Wasnt too painful i thought. The very next day my pride and joy failed MOT. Was something to do with the wiper assembly i think!!:D
Call me old fashioned if you like but something just doesn't sit right with removing someone elses property from a skip (even though it may have been discarded) without asking first0
