Used car cover - Peugeot
Hi,
I purchased a 2009 Peugeot from Peugeot less than six months ago and it suddenly started to have some issues with the warning lights coming on.
It came with a years warrently but apparently I have to pay the £130 diagnostic fee as it's not covered.
Is that normal? My sister says I should expect to pay something on a used car but I'm not so sure.
When my previous used Ford 1998 had issues after 6 months they just sorted it.

Is this a genuine Peugeot used warranty or some general purpose aftermarket used car dealer warranty....the former i wouldn't expect to be paying a bean unless they could prove damage due to misuse or neglect, the latter often only useful as expensive bog roll.0

It's a genuine Peugeot dealer warranty. I got my Ford fixed for free from a used car dealer a few years back, paid zilch.
Basically their diagnostics may turn out more expensive than the fix. I feel it's a bit much.. £130 for sticking a machine on the car. Only purchased the car in December and it wasn''t cheap0 -
You might find that the £130 cost to diagnose the problem is covered by the warranty IF the cause is covered by the warranty
It was when my alternator started making a strange noise and was found to be faulty0 -
The Peugeot diagnostic tool is called Proxia (and Citroen's equivalent is Lexia) - you can have your car fault diagnosed for free without going to a dealer.
Go to French Car Forum and in either Peugeot or Citroen forum ask whether anyone in your area has a Lexia/Proxia available - there are tens of forum members offering free (or almost free) Peugeot/Citroen diagnostics checks across the country.
Peugeot/Citroen have a joint venture with Dongfeng in China to build cars over there, and surprise surprise you can now buy Lexia/Proxia knock offs from Ebay for around £85 delivered - Peugeot/Citroen dealers buy the genuine things for about €3000. You just plug it into the car's diagnostics socket and a windows laptop.

You should expect to pay anything from £25 upwards for a diagnostic plug in and check. Most independent garages will do this for you, ring round your local area first. Get a printout of the code and progress from there.0
