My mortgage interest payments are paid directly to my mortgage provider and always have been. I receive an annual statement to show the payments, but no actual cash. I'm quite happy with it being this way, but I thought it was the same way for everyone, so why was the ex getting the cash into her bank?

I don't know if it is the same for all councils, but i know my local council in london when i lived there had a claim, they gave you a choice on the paperwork for who and where it was paid, and that meant paid to you, or paid to the landlord.

I remember many years back claiming housing benefit for a few months on a council property, so they own the property, and give you the money to pay them the rent, and they trust you to do it...

I always thought this was a stupid thing to give a choice on, but that is how it is so it is very possible for that to happen...
  • yes kevin I think that is what happened...all I know is she told the mortgage company previously she had started to claim the benefit and that stalled court issues before, she then made one payment of the £199 before starting to bounce them all over the place.

and yes clearing out, any fund would be in the little ones name, but part of the yearly payments are meant to cover lost income if you are giving up work to look after the child at least this is the gist of what I have learnt I guess it will be confirmed further along the process but for instance say you are given a yearly fund of 100k to pay for care, therapies etc...out of that you can claim a salary (instead of for instance paying for a full time carer) so be it you claim you true lost salary or an average carers one that money is then yours as 'wages' would be....hence why I wonder if that portion would be classed as wages as such. The lady did not ring me back today as promised...now there is a shock!
  • would she be likely to get into trouble for not using the benefit for the said purpose? because £199 would have kept her in the house, but now she is privately renting one across the road and the average rent is £600 so I guess she is costing them a lot more after pocketing the benefit previously.

Kingfisher blue, I receive about £80 interest help for my half of my mortgage, and I was asked whether I wanted it paid to me or to the mortgage company. The only amount I had no choice on was the arrears- which was a nuisance as I had borrowed some money from family when my benefits were being sorted out, and the arrears would have been a help in paying some of that back. As it was, the arrears reduced the size of the mortgage slightly which was no bad thing I suppose.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
