Okay, so I took everyone's advice and closed my account, but I spoke to my bank and told them everything. I arranged for my wages to go into a new bank account, but my bank tell me that the PDL company can take the money from my new account and there's nothing I can do about it. Has anyone got any advice? Apparently it doesn't matter where you move your account to, they can track it and still take the money, even if its in a different bank and this advice came direct from the Santander fraud advisers. Also, my wages go into the bank tomorrow and I'm really concerned that they will take all of it before I have chance to pay any bills/withdraw the money etc.0

I do not think they could just take money without court order or similar from another account. If Santander say that the PDL company could get money from another Santander A/C moveto another bank. I cannot see how the PDL company could just remove money from an account with a different institution, this sounds fishy, perhaps he is trying to discourage you from moving your banking away from Santander. Call me cynical but I canot see how they could do this.0 -
Ok, right now its just a nightmare. I really don't know what to do. Maybe you're right about them not wanting me to move my account. Do you think they'll be able to take my wage before I get to it tomorrow? I was planning, just to be on the safe side, to get my salary paid into my mums account from now on, just until the debts are paid off. It will mean I have to pay all my bills the old fashioned way (via the post office) but maybe that's for the best!0

Who is your new account with?
You may have to stay up tonight and the minute the money hits your account FP it to your mums.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
Hope you got 'safe'
I found Halifax and Barclays were really quick/easy to get account open - card and full account details all through in a couple of days wait
I opened the Barclays a/c in branch and got account info there and then so at least I could setup necessary direct debits and begin the transfer process much quicker0 -
Well this is a long overdue response, but I figure this may help others... I closed my account with Santander and opened one with Nationwide instead. I then waited for the debts to go to debt collectors and made affordable payment plans with them. I've paid almost all of it off now, which is great. I've got £390 to go, but its better than the nearly £3000 I was up to!
If anyone else is in a similar situation and cannot possibly pay, a last resort is to close the account and keep your money safe elsewhere!0 -
