Amazon Wish List Prices

I've heard from a number of friends that they have added an item on Amazon to their wish list and on revisiting the site a few days later the price has increased.
A number of years ago Amazon due to consumer pressure had to stop their policy of differentially pricing items based upon your profile of previous books bought (i.e. if you buy expensive books you're more likely to be happy to spend more on other books).
Can anyone else verify this claim is it based on pure paranoia?

Cannot confirm that from personal experience.
I bought a CD from the Amazon US website yesterday after it went down in price by $ 3. I had been watching that through the wishlist for a couple of weeks: Initially $ 16.99, then 14.99, back to 16.99, then finally down to 13.99, at which point I ordered.
I have seen the same happen for books on the UK website.
If you are worried about how Amazon use your data, you could try deleting the cookies before you access their website.0 -
If you are buying a gift from someone elses wish list and you then click to buy it, it then dissapears from their gift list, then the person knows that it has been bought for them. I made that mistake, so now I click off the wish list then buy it. Saves the suprise.0

If an item is added to the wish list which amazon are not stocking themselves, it may be sourced through a marketplace seller. I'm not sure but I reckon the price shown on the wishlist is for the cheapest of that item sold by a marketplace seller. If that cheapest item is bought by someone else, then the one on the wishlist has to be sourced by another marketplace seller, and the price will be greater than the cheapest one which got bought.
That, I believe, is why the price of something on a wish list may increase.

I wanted to do that but then I reckoned that that would result in several people buying someone the same things
