Thanks. Seems badly thought out to me though. I really can't see much risk at all in exchanging personal details and it causes inconvenience to people. People use this "saftey is paramount" argument to avoid the trouble of thinking things through (witness the volcanic ash saga). Have sent a message to the forum administrators.
some of the dangers online are !!!!!philes, spy ware, spam. If you do allow others to see your personal information they could forge your credit cards, passports, birth certificate etc. They could even pretend to be you to claim things such as money, precious items bought, drugs, medicines etc. They could also target your children (if you have any)
Little of what is listed is Internet specific. Much of it could be done as effectively (if not more so) by people whom I meet in person (and incidentally I do willingly give my name to strangers whom I meet). The only exception is sending spam, about which I don't care. I probably get 100 spam emails a day but they get filtered out.
