Car buying options - can't decide

You're absolutely right. My 2001 VW Golf TDI has needed next to no work, apart from the usual servicing, tyres etc since I bought it 5 years ago.
I'm definitely now thinking used is the way to go.
Now just to decide what to buy!
But it's all a bit hit and miss. You could get an old used car and have no problems like yours or you could buy one and get loads of problems costing you £1000s. Similarly you could get a new/nearly new car with problems or one without problems. It really is luck of the draw as even those who know about cars can end up with a lemon.
OP - might be worth checking that she will get the £300 regardless on what she gets. Where my OH works some people get a car allowance but need to send in receipts and if you don't spend the full amount you loose it.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
If you're going for contract hire, there's one company you shouldn't touch with a barge-pole - Lex Autolease (part of Lloyds TSB?). We've just returned a car after 3 years in excellent condition and they want to charge a hefty fee for wear and tear - not in the contract, but they'r e making it up as they go along.0

Does anyone else at work get the car allowance?
I just wonder if she got a MX5 or something else a bit obviously fancy, it might cause a bit of resentment when she pulls up at work!
The very reason a lot of sales types drive nice luxurious... Skodas.0
