Reclaiming Mortgage Protection

My ex husband has sadly passed away recently. We married in 1977 and divorced in 1991-we always stayed friends. Our son has inherited everything. I was speaking to an old friend the other day and she told me she'd had her mortgage protection back....even tho she was divorced and he'd remarried. The fact that he was on the original mortgage, as i was. My son doesn't think i can claim as his Dad in no longer here.

    Two scenarios possible.
1 - it was mis-sold and the premiums refunded
2 - the lender was auto paying out on complaints to clear backlog (e.g. Halifax)

You cannot just reclaim insurance premiums. It has to be mis-sold. Was yours?

PPI needs to be mis-sold to be refunded. You can complain and they could pay to you but only after seeing copy of death cert.

There may have been mortgage deals in the past where the purchase of MPPI (or life assurance) was required. That is allowed although you dont see it much nowadays.

You probably cant after all this time (most had stopped by the 2000s).

It should be noted that complaints on the basis of "i was told I had to have it" are the weakest form of complaint going. Most will get rejected unless there is another failing or reason for paying out. So, it's probably better to focus on a more reasonable complaint reason.

Please post on your own thread and not hijack another which has nothing in common with yours. It isnt fair on the OP if your question takes over their thread and prevents closure to their discussion. It can also make threads messy with multiple conversations going on with unrelated subject matter.

At this stage, we do not even know if MPPI existed, if it did, when it was taken out or who might have sold it.

So I think we are onto a non-starter.
