Does anyone else think some plastic bread wrappings make the bread taste strange?

I stopped buying Tesco sliced bread because the wrapping on it smells and taints the bread. I've been buying Kingsmill 50/50 and just bought a few loaves of the Omega 50/50 (some to go in the freezer too) to find the same problem. The bread is inedible because of the nasty chemical taste which permeates the whole loaf.

Hubby agrees with me - to us it stinks and even if you leave the slices out for an hour the smell and taste do not go away.

I left some soft fruit in perforated plastic containers in the same bag for an hour and it even left the nasty chemical stink on those - yet more for the recycle bin.

Has anyone else noticed the same problem?

I'm just wondering what chemicals are in this awful plastic? Is this awful stink supposed to make the bread keep for longer and WHY are they using such dreadful plastic around everyday foodstuff?

  • I always buy Warburtons sliced bread - either medium or toastie and this comes in paper wrappers so you shouldn't have the smelly plastic problem.

I have noticed that brown bread makes a strange smell when going off, reminds me of nail varnish remover!
