i called at the local farm shop today and they had a big trolley of bags of beef bones with a sign saying help yourself! with free being the best type of bargin i thought it would be rude not to
my question is..... what can i do with beef stock other than beef stew or gravy. most recipes seem to call for chicken stock. so has anyone got any tasty ideas for beef stock?
thanks

It's so good to know i'm not the only one that makes stock! most of the time when i tell someone i've made stock they just look at me blankly.
Firstly stock freezes beautifully.
burt here are a few other uses-
1. Curry -once you've cooked the meat and veg, add curry powder and a handful of flour and mix that in then add about 1pt of stock and stir then simmer i guarantee it'll be delicious!
2.Bolognaise Sauce (this would be my personal preference (if you would like my recipe pm me)) I would make up a big load of bolognaise sauce just fill the biggest pan you can, use your stock in it. Then use the sauce for spag bol one night, lasagne the next, chilli con carne the following and the sauce will also freeze.
Hope this helps0 -

I always make French onion soup with beef stock - Delia's recipe is good:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

Hi rachbc,
I second Penny's suggestion of Delia's french onion soup, or if that doesn't appeal, just keep it for adding to casseroles. There's an earlier thread on using beef stock:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
