Can you help with our problem here. Hubby bought a 3 storey house before i met and married him. He fell into money troubles and got into arrears with mortgage people, which through an arrangement now we are paying off. Had house for 6 years now, he is now 50 yrs old and will have to work till 70 yrs old to pay it off. House is 3 storey and i am disabled with arthritis and have trouble going up and down the stairs, the house is to big for us two, and want to downaize. But not sure if we would be able to get mortgage for a cheaper smaller house.

Talk to lenders and ask an independent or whole market broker.
Think about having a single agreement in principle to find out if you're credit worthy. No multiple checks as these will hurt you more than help you.I am a mortgage broker.
