  • thanks renowen for your post. We have had the treasure boxes for the children at school, they are lovely and they have really enjoyed getting them. I won't apply now I know who they are meant for and thanks again. bbx

    - bookstart have extended their free books - not only do you get a bag at your childs 9 month check, but you can also get another pack at 2 years and a 'treasury box' at 3 years!

This is a new thing so not all Health centres have them but if you visit your local library they will either have some or order some in for you (at least this is what we were told!)

I'm a "Bookstart Lady" and can confirm that these packs are available to all children in England, Wales and Scotland. The Bookstart Plus packs (for 18-30 months) are given out through Health Visitors, whereas the Treasure Boxes for 3-year-olds are mainly available through nursery education settings. If your child has missed out, do ask at your local library - your child deserves it!

The Bookstart packs for 18-30 and 3 years plus are given out at our library. We just have to produce the red health book that every child has. This is dated and the pack given. I didn't know about this until the woman in front of me picked up a pack so might be worth checking out as I haven't seen a health visitor since my son was 8 months.

:T thanks renowen for this great find. i phoned on the 9th and it arrived on friday which was excellent as i have my youngest off school ill at the mo.
it cheered him up no end. we had loads of fun doing it and it was great to see him enjoying doing the tasks with confidence as he is having a hard time with school work at the moment.
i enjoyed it too:D and was amazed at the quality and range of activities. i hope they do more of them as i would love to buy these if they where the same format.

:A a big thanks from my son too.

I ordered this book for my little one, she's 3 & has Cerebral Palsy.
I'd say its more for the age range 3-5, and will be great for adults who are not confident readers. But as 'red sahara' said; they are good quality & have a great range of activities..great for confidence building & imaginitive play too.
A big thanks from my daughter too! x

Just rang through for a copy, the lady said there was one for every household and to pass the details onto friends/family who could benefit from them. She also took some details about my work and education as part of a statistics survey. Hopefully the pack will help DH, who struggles with the new phonectics system?

This offer is part of the adult literacy campaign and they are hoping for feedback on it too.

They are still willing to send the packs out for children.
