Is ordinary foil behing the radiator as good as the specially made ones?

You can buy those specially made foil sheets to go behind your radiator. What about making my own with foil? Is that any good?

Thanks

It will have exactly the same effect as the specially made ones - at least in the short term. The grade of foil intended for wrapping turkeys, sandwiches etc is however pretty thin so more easily damaged than the specialist stuff. If you look around you may find 'heavy duty' foil (but it will of course be dearer).

Afraid I'm not entirely convinced about foil behind radiators. Probably some benefit on an outside wall but on an internal wall, warming the area behind the wall would continue to deliver low grade heat even when the central heating pump has stopped.

  • We use the foil-covered 'sun reflector' things you can get for car windscreens. Cheaper than the specialist things, longer lasting than kitchen foil.

No idea if any of it works though!
