Advice needed about default

ok here's the story

I defaulted on an unused account with barclays after i moved addresses, not realising the account was minus in balance
it was for £133.00 on 26/5/06

c l finance then bought the debt and also defaulted it, making it
£159.00 on 15/8/2006

eventually a third company caught up with me this year and informed me that if i did not pay they would add another default to my credit file.

at this point i checked my experian credit report for the first time and seen the damage it had made, and paid them the money.

the c l finance account now shows on experian as defaulted but settled, default date still 15/8/2006

will this default still leave my credit file in august this year? or have i stupidly acknowledged the debt and restarted the 6 year cycle?

has anyone been in this situation as im wanting a mortgage this year

    They lied to you.

They cannot add a new default.

It will be completely removed in August 2012. No matter what. :)

thanks so much for your advice, it has put my mind at rest. although about them lying, i defaulted twice on the same debt already, so thought they could do it a third time

You should only ever have one default on your credit file for any debt.

Not quite sure from your post whether you currently have 1 or 2 showing on your report from 2006?. If it's 2 then that is wrong, but won't stop them coming off later this year.

What they can't do is put another one on now, no matter what you do with the account.

If they did, then that would be way out of order and you could have it removed.
