in Loans
Am in bits.. Absolute bits.
I had a moment of madness in 2008, and signed up to a computer course. I couldn't get the loan, so the guy told me to get one thru them, by Barclays finance. Long story short, if I didn't pay it off in a year, then the interest would more than double it, to 11 thousand.
Of course I couldn't get a loan, so the interest doubled, and with repayments of 300 a month I couldn't keep up. After a stint in an IVA, and then flirting with bankruptcy, I started to face up to all my debts and after 18 months I was on top of them. I had arranged with a debt agency who took the case repayments and after keeping them up they mentioned an early settlement figure. My mother said she would lend me the money with me to pay her back and I got them down to accept £6000, and after checking with the debt co that this payment would finally end all repayments I sent the cheque last month and as well as sorting all my other debts finally felt as if things were on the up. Money anxiety gone. Opening statements, saving, rebuilding credit ratings. Then today, I got a statement for the last financial year from Barclays, and they now want £3000 off me!!!
I work two jobs, Monday to Friday, from 7am to 9pm, I didn't go bankrupt cos it didn't feel morally right for me, despite the interest being £1000 more than the actual loan, and this happens.
Sorry if I'm being melodramatic, but I'm so upset and angry, and can't speak to anyone til tomoro morning at 9.
What do I do? Does anyone have any ideas?

Was Barclays included in the settlement of £6,000?
Ideally, all your creditors should have written to you staying they will offer a settlement of however much and it was valid for 30 days. Once received, they would write and confirm that the funds were received and the matter is now closed.
You will have to follow up with them. If they were not part of the combined settlement, you will have to come up with an arrangement of some sort.DEBTFREE AND PROUD!!0 -
Hi Alan, didn't just want to read and run. I'm sorry your going through this it must be a nightmare.
Obviously your going to call Barclays up first thing? Make sure yoy have all your statements and proof of payment to the debt company on hand, it could just be a computer generated letter if they haven't updated your files yet. Fingers crossed on that.
I'm sure if it comes to it, worse case scenario, you can contact your local CAB and get them to help you work out a payment plan. Good luckI SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.
