Do I make a claim
Portmanteau
Hi,
I'm sure if this is the right place to ask about this type of thing but here goes.
Part of my job is to drive to different locations & about a week ago I went to a call & parked in their car park. My car was parked adjacent to a strip of wooden stumps which are out of view when sat in the car. These stumps act as aesthetic partitions to the different parts of the car park.
Upon leaving I had completely forgotten about these stumps as my car rode over them and caused £250 of damage.
The reason I think I can claim against them is because this was the only stump out of 4 that was missing a metal bollard presumably to alert drivers to the wooden stumps.
I was told by the staff who worked there that this metal bollard had been previously knocked of by a another driver, so they were already aware of this issue. In addition to this this particular stump has been badly damaged due to other vehicles.
I would like to upload a picture of the site to more accurately describe the incident but I can't.
So what are my chances?:money:

Sorry but you have dammed yourself by saying 'I completely forgot about them'
You hit an inanimate object - your fault. Sorry
(been there, done that)
I think you are clutching at straws to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
i think good
but whether they will pay0 -

I didn't tell them that! In the other parts of the car park there are bollards to alert you of these stumps; where I was parked there were none.0 -

I know that you dint tell them that, but really, in all honesty, dont you feel a real tit for hitting this that you really feel is your fault for forgetting about them. come on, 'fess up.
Accept that you have (just for a split second) been a complete plonker, you will feel better, like I say, been there, done that.
You look for anyone else to blame, in time you will get to the common sense scenario,
My fault, I'll deal with it. and then you can move on.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

sorry dont agree
owners are aware and situation needs rectifying because it will happen again otherwise to another poor soul
so action needs taking0 -
Would the owners of the car park have any rights to charge for damage to their 'stump' I wonder?
It's a little hard to picture exactly what is being talked about here, but plenty of car parks have, for example, raised partitions made from kerb stones that are not visible when sat in a car next to them, and don't have any sort of bollards to warn drivers they are there. And nor do they need to have.
I think McKneff is right though. If I drove into an inanimate object and damaged my car (and I've also been there and done that...) then I'd feel a prat (I did) but it would still be my fault.0 -
Another "who else can I blame for my error" thread..0

But...you still knew they were there! Also you state that only 1 of the 4 "stumps" was mising a bollard yet you drove over the full strip of them.Portmanteau wrote: »I didn't tell them that!
