I don't know who my loan was with and it's over 6 years ago

I've just started trying to reclaim my PPI, I got my credit report but this only showed loans and cards that were active within the last 6 years. Is there a way for my to get details of older?

I know in the early 2000's I took out a loan for around £2,000 and at the time I asked if it would cost me less if I paid it back early and was assured it would. Some months later I took out a consolidation loan with HSBC but was shocked to discover I had to repay the full amount including interest to this original firm.

I can't remember who they were but I recall also having a credit card with them and at some point they changed names. I have the name Household Bank in my head and HFC rings a bell too.

Is there I way for me to find out who this loan was with and even after all this time might I have some sort of claim against them?

I appreciate any advice offered.
