Hi, I am looking for a camera, it has to be small, easy to use and produce good pics.
I have no idea at all about camera's I don't really use them much, but I am going on a cruise and want to capture as much as possible.
Any advice would be very welcome

Any budget?0

Brand wise I would recommend Canon or Panasonic. Take a look at the Panasonic Lumix range of compact cameras.

Would second the Lumix suggestion, but also point out that it's down to the person operating the camera as to the quality of the pictures!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

My advice would be go to a store and get your hands on them, then sourse the model you like online for the best price, dont listen to any of their sales talk. Note down the models you like then google them for reviews. Dont be blinded by Megapixels and Zoom as selling points for a compact camera, more mega pixels dont mean better quality (the opposite in most occasions) and compacts with a high amount of zoom dont perform that well TBH.
Im a Canon man so I will say Canon but Pany, Sony and Nikon Point and shots are all good its personal preference real,y and of course your budget.
Also get yourself a good pouch and as big a memory card as you can afford for your holiday.0 -

Yeah. Let's put the camera shops out of business, so that in months/years to come we'll have no choice but to buy online and unsighted. :TScience adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Thanks for the round of applause but why would I spend more on a product I can get cheaper elsewhere?
I have been into many a highstreet store and found the people they employ to inform me of a suitable product know nothing about what they are selling, infact they give out wrong advice. Its not my job to keep a shop in bussiness, its their job to provide me with a high standard of customer service, if they did I would by from them.
Thanks again :rotfl:.0 -
Where is your cruise going? If it's to the caribbean, you can buy cameras a lot cheaper out there than in the UK0

Budget is about £80, and my cruise is in the med,I think going to shops and getting my hands on one is a good idea to see what I like the look of, so thanks all for the advice so far.
I feel a shopping trip coming on0 -
right, so you'll want to look at some of these...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-Coolpix-S3100-Digital-Camera/dp/B004L9KHUY/
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Lumix-FS18-Digital-Camera/dp/B004I1KP84/
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-A3200-Digital-Camera/dp/B004HKJUIM/
So, some rules for buying cameras:
1. Ignore the number of megapixels. As long as it's more than 5mp, you'll be fine. There is no benefit in a 16mp camera rather than a 10mp camera - you won't see the difference
2. It's all about the lens. for a cruise, you'll want it to be nice and wide (e.g. 28mm) for landscape photos. A massive zoom isn't especially necessary0 -
Thank you Ringo, I shall jot those down and go shopping and have a play, before I make my choice,
thanks all0
