I have won a Barbecue but they want me to sign a waver before they will give it to me, I have won quite a few prizes but have never been asked to do this before. What do you think is this giving away too many of my rights.
by the way I Know it says about canada but it is coming from there uk division based in Coventry
This is copy of the relevant parts of the waiver
I HEREBY AGREE:

Hi i dont see anything to worry about there,
most companies do say they may use your name, voice etc etc..
Or you could give them a call and just verify the first paragraph and what it means, and im sure they will tell you the same thing.
Alot of companies use the same terms and conditions for most comps they put on so sometimes parts of the terms are irrelevant, which i think is the case here..
Well done and get cooking.Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
i would say it sounds just like they want you to sign to say they can use your name for publicity x2019 wins: VonShef 3.5L Air Fryer0

It's probably something that is required by law in Canada, it doesn't look like anything that should concern you. Well done on your win.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I am properly too cautious but it just seemed to be a bit over the top just to use my name on the site/facebookI've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances...... Brian Tracy0 -
If it was me, I'd sign it without the slightest worry.
clause 2 is just for publicity - it is the cost of winning. I would only worry about it if you were ever going to be a major star or celebrity in which case you are signing away too much.
clause 3 is because in the USA (and possibly in Canada) prizes are subject to tax, and you are saying it is your responsibility to pay, not theirs. I would be more worried about this clause if prize was coming from abroad as you would be agreeing to customs charges etc, but as it is coming from Coventry you are OK.
clause 4 means if the goods are faulty/dangerous etc. you can not hold the promoter responsible. You will still be covered by product liability laws against the manufacturer.0 -
I have signed release forms and waivers before. For holidays rather than products but i think it is fine.Top wins in 2018: Trip to Iceland, helicopter ride over london, couples massage, £300 flight from Pringles, trip to Paris, cocktail making class and afternoon tea up the shard. .
Top wins in 2017:holiday to the Bahamas, trip to Paris, meal with champagne, a week in a manor house in France with £500 spending money.0 -
i would sign this with no qualms.the laws of Canada have no relevance as far as i am concerned. we live in the united Kingdom and are governed by as such.
I assume it is so they can say you* Betty of *Bradford (sorry) won!
just to verify I would ask what this waive entails...
i know it sounds harsh, but it would not stand up in a court of law0
