Deeds Release Fee if I have the deeds?

I am looking at switching my mortgage and I contacted my current provider to point out that they sent me the deeds when I moved over to them 3 years ago so surely they cannot charge me a deeds release fee if I move my mortgage?

What do you think?

At the end of the day it was their fault in sending me the deeds in the first place. When I received them I just stored them away safely. It wasn't until someone else said to me that the Mortgage Provider should have them and you are only sent them when you pay off your Mortgage!!!

I will be very annoyed if they do charge me a fee when I have them here as I will have to incur charges to post them to my new provider. :mad:

The importance of holding the deeds has been reduced significantly recently now that titles are held electronically by the Land Registry, and many lenders don't keep the deeds any more.

I wouldn't have thought they would charge you a deeds release fee as they would only apply this charge after releasing them and if they find out they haven't got them then ergo they shouldn't charge you.

In the unlikely event that they do make the charge, you should have no problem obtaining a refund so I wouldn't worry about it for now!
