Just a quick question re: Facebook

I enter loads of Facebook comps but so far haven't won any, (apart from the instant win for things like KitKat :p).

It got me thinking if this has something to do with my security settings. I have mine set to friends only so I'm not sure if this would stop any potential wins from appearing.

Has anyone who has won on Facebook have their privacy settings to public or friends only?

I'm sure it's just down to me not being lucky on Facebook comps but it would set my mind at ease ;)

I think the shares at least need to be public otherwise they can't see the post to confirm that you have shared, if that makes sense. I tend not to enter the share comps because I don't want to fill up my friends feed.

Not sure how it works on the sweepstakes, I have private settings and so far haven't won anything through this so can't give you good news unfortunately.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.

  • i've been lucky enough to win a couple of facebook comps.
You can decide upon how visible you want the share to be for each individual post. As you click share on the page then another small box pops up which you then click share doesn't it? In the top right corner is a drop-down arrow with the option to make is public, friends only etc.

I would suggest you make all your comp shares public otherwise they're not going to be able to verify you have done it.

I am a bit dubious about the majority of FB comps, but winning is possible!

Good luck ..hope this helps a bit :)

    Thanks for the replies.

Ladychelington, I didn't realise that you could choose different settings for individual posts. I'll have a look at that next time I enter. I'm still a little ditsy when it comes to Facebook, even though I've been using it for years :o:rotfl:

  • no probs. I hope it works as i am a bit clueless too! :)
I just looked and there's an option for only me too, although why you would want to share the link with yourself is beyond me! :rotfl:

I use the only me option when I sign up to an app which says it wants to post on my behalf. Because my facebook is the one I use for all my friends I don't want to clog them up especially if I don't know what they are saying on my behalf. And also because I enter a lot of baby comps but haven't told anyone that I am expecting (except people on here)

I have my settings on friends except if one of the terms of the competition is to share a post then I set the shared post to public. I do wonder if it hampers my chances because if a company was to check out my timeline all they would see is competitions because all my other status updates are private. However, I have won a couple of Facebook competitions, one of which was a comment, like & share. I tend to focus on the app comps rather than the like & shares because if you don't enter via an app the only way you will know if you've won is if you keep checking back on their wall. Me & Babychamprincess try & keep the Facebook Winners thread updated if you enter a lot of like & shares.

i hadnt realised about the making the shares public until a competition post said to make sure the share was public.

I have a facebook account set up purely for comps and i have entered thousands of competitions on facebook and won only 1! this was through an app.

I am not a fan of facebook comps but since there are more and more of them its hard to not enter as theres not many normal comps left :(

    good luck.
would love to win an ipad!

I enter loads of facebook comps and have won a few, and i thought all my facebook was private for friends only until someone i don't have on my friends list said she had seen me mention something on facebook and i thought how?? then when i looked at it i realised you have to choose friends or public each time you post now!

My settings are friends only and I've beenvery lucky with Facebook. Prizes include £1000 TV from John Lewis, Remington hairdryer, Pistachio nuts, Cadbury's mini eggs etc. I'm not sure how I win them. I've stopped sharing posts so as not to clog up my friends pages and from what I've read Iprobably wasn't entered in the ones I did share! Just shows what a dipstick I am!! My only advice is keep going and be careful what you enter.
    Comping challenges:

    £2013 in 2013. 253/2013
    20 prizes over £13 2/20
