6-Years Credit Report?

Hi all, after some advice if I may?

Can anybody confirm that it's correct that after 6-years any debt held on your credit file is removed, whether you have or have not paid said debt?

Just heard this is the case, but thought it might be the same as the statute of limitations whereby if you make contact with the company or payment of part of the debt, that the 6-years resets itself?

I understand that obviously a file being held on your credit report, then being removed after six years even if contact was made at say 5-years, would still mean that the creditor can still chase you.

Thanks
