Was nosing on https://www.iceland.co.uk (and no I don't work for them) and spotted that there are lots of BBQ packs for the summer, a new range of Greggs pies n pasties plus offers on breakfast cereals atm

I'm going to investigate the Caribbean pork and pineapple kebabs for BBQs this summer for OH.

Just thought I'd give you all the heads up.

It's always worth checking out Icleand. I like the party packs of Indian snacks. Very useful in the freezer for jazzing up a HM curry. Shame is that each season things disappear. I used to love the hot smoked salmon fillets and the decent size packs of kippers.

Really surprised that a former chef and food researcher who saw fit to lecture me on the evils of wholemeal couscous would be promoting such food as frozen Greggs and meat coated in goodness only knows what. Nowt as queer as folk....

rachelbc, I low carb because I have diabetes and I got results of my latest tests on Friday. The people who have constantly criticised me about my diet can eat humble pie now as I have normal blood sugar, excellent cholesterol, normal kidney function and also excellent blood pressure.

I didn't eat unhealthy food I was reared on the low fat diet we're all supposed to eat. My father died of heart disease, my mother and brother have hypertension and I got diabetes despite never eating ready meals or cakes etc. No one was more aggrieved therefore to get diabetes than me, I even grew my own organic veg.

You say that I lectured you about eating wholemeal couscous. That's not entirely accurate. There was a thread about saving more money on food and someone joined in who buys lots of fresh real food in basics ranges and people started suggesting out of date processed food from these bargain stores.

I made the point that frankly it's crazy to be advising someone who eats really healthily to start eating unhealthily.

I didn't name anyone but about three people started on me personally and you were one of them. I pointed out that there is no such product as wholemeal couscous because couscous is a processed food made from a processed food which in itself is a by-product of another processed food. There's zero wholemeal anything in it.

A diet of nothing but pasties would be unhealthy. However, even MPs eat the occasional pasty.

So having shown your ignorance about wholemeal couscous, you're now sneering at frozen food. When Iceland did internet delivery I shopped there a lot. Frozen vegetables are a lot healthier than supposedly fresh ones that sit around in cold stores for up to a year.

If you want to be catty you picked on the wrong person believe me.

I wasn't sneering at frozen food - I was quering the recommendation of frozen pasties and meat coated in vile flavouring that costs more per kg than fresh unprocessed stuff. After all surely its better to eat both more cheaply AND more healthily. I fully understand that frozen veg is healthy - thats one of the reasons I buy so much of it. However you weren't advocating the purchase of frozen veg.

I think Iceland is fine provided you're careful what you buy, and that applies to prices as well as ingredients.

That's my view becasue I do like to eat as healthily as possible. However, I'd be careful about preaching as some people do buy ready meals for all sorts of personal reasons some financial but there are other reasons too.

And I do like the odd bit of cr*p as a tasty treat too!:D Deep fried, spring rolls! Yum! Yum!

Thanks OP, I like the look of the 9 mini steak burgers. I've bought something similar from the M&S party range so I'd be interested to see what the Iceland ones are like.
