Social Fund Debt over 10 years old???

Hi I have recently received a threatening letter from DWP saying I owe them over 200 from a social fund loan I had when homeless with four young children over ten years ago I assumed this had been cleared as I have had money deducted over a long period of time, and assumed it was cleared, have been working for the last few years and thought nothing of it. I did go bankrupt about 8 years ago and I know that wouldnt be included in that, I have no proof of how much I actually owe so no clue if this figure is right I would have only been given a couple of hundred at the time anyway so dont see as how it can be over 200 hundred now, any ideas what I do about this as am dealing with other problem debts currently and struggling. Im a terrible ostrich.

Ask for the DWP to send proof of this and how it has occured so you have a better insight.

Also, you mention debt problems...have you put an SOA on here yet and if not maybe you should...

If you don't feel confident asking for a write-off, ask the CAB to do it for you as it came from their info system.

Many thanks for the above two replies .... im looking into it right now, I should do an SOA but right now im too scared too, Im finally earning okay but I know if I actually made arrangements to pay all my debts I would have nothig left to live on and I support both of us totally so as usual Im in ostrich mode and dealing with things as they pop out of the woodwork, Ive several debts that will be statute barred in about a year and am sort of waiting for that and hoping nothing too bad happens, have caught up on council tax debt and priorities so Im being more responsible. Thanks again for any and all support it is much appreciated. This site is an absolute god send,.
