Guitar Hero/ Rock band help...

My daughter has said she wants guitar hero for the wii for her birthday, but looking at the tracks I'm sure she'd prefer the songs in rock band. Are the two compatible? Do I buy a guitar hero guitar, and then will it go with the rock band game? Or is there a rock band guitar for the wii? Any help would be appreciated.

hi minty firstly: yes - you can buy rock band for the wii.

secondly: you used to be able to use guitar hero guitars on rock band for the ps3 and 360 (don't know about on the wii) up until around gh 3 or 4 but harmonix cottoned onto this and now you can't, so no, the guitars/games are not cross compatible.

there's 3 "main" rock band games and a couple of discs with more tracks on in addition to a few spins off eg rock band beatles/green day and guitar hero has 5 main games and a couple of spin offs too eg gh metallica - if I were you I'd google all the tracklists and let her pick which one she prefers, remember you can download song packs too. hope this helps x

There's a page on the rockband website that shows compatibility between guitar hero, rockband and the various controllers.

I have guitar hero world tour & guitar hero 3 on the wii, and can confim that the controllers work fine with the Rock Band Beatles game at least.

if you can find a copy! in any case the op asked for a wii version so don't know if a pc one will be any good for her.

It's a free download. It may not be what was asked for but I thought it worth mentioning anyway.

Thanks all. I ended up ordering Guitar hero 5 as that seemed to have most songs on that she'd like, plus Band hero for some more pop. They should keep her happy!
