one word, confused!!
looking for a new mattress and wish i never bothered laying on a new one and then i wouldnt no what i was missing with my 7 yr old one!
as ive said im 6' 5" and 18 stone so looking for a firm mattress. the wife is 5' 3" and half my weight. ive seen a refresh zen at dreams for £475. its 1600 pocket and latex. im aware of there pricing methods etc and think its a fair price.
a little conserned about a) biuld quailty b) the latex/pillow topper going lumper etc.
on the other hand ive seen a Harrisons 2000 pocket sprung 'traditional' mattress in an independant shop for £600.
im very tempted to go with this as its less tech and more traditional, nothing to lose its shape etc.
there both very comfortable laid there in the shop and theres nothing betwen them in that respect.
any advice (Tim!)
thanx.

I'm not exactly answering your question really, but how about a zip & link? That way both your wife & yourself can have different mattresses to suit
I'm of the very sturdy build & personally would steer clear of anything that had latex or foam type on it. They tend to retain a lot of your body's heat which isn't pleasant when you have your own well insulated figure already doing that for you. At the end of the night, we were feeling almost boiled alive.
Not so much a Tempur mattress, more of a tempura one....."Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Grimbal,
I would second your vote for a zip n link, pocket sprung with 2 different tensions.
By the way there is no such thing as a tempura mattress. It just people calling Tempur by the wrong. I must hear that name at least 3 times a week from customers.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -

well without stating the obvious here why don't you and the wife try laying on some in the shops as a thought, would avoid dreams though.
i for one didn't practice what i preach though i bought from mattressman myself i got Relyon Memory Sublime 2400 Mattress (King Size)
which was a normal sprung pocket with memory foam topper and obviously the more springs the more firmer was worried about the memory foam as people say it gets hot but for me is ok not that bad because i personally like being cool but my wife likes being hot like an oven the one thing i found if i get too hot is kick the duvet back a bit but i have got a 15tog feather and down duvet.
the mattress i got cost me £750 but i have had it since november2010 and is fine no lumps or bumps yet just have to turn it head to toe every month which isn't a hardship but mine is very heavy 2400 springs only thing i did have to buy was new fitted sheets as mine is a 17" deep. question is am i happy answer is yes worth every penny best sleep i've had in years.
i'm 5ft 10 and around 16 and a half stone the only improvement you might want is superking cos of your height but you would only get a gain of 12" width wise.
the reason i used mattressman they seemed to have the biggest choice at the best prices i could find when i bought mine but might be worth a look to give you some ideas plenty of info on all the mattress just remember you going to be sleeping on this for years to come.
hope this helps you
basil.

"The more springs the firmer the mattress"
Not true, the firmness of a mattress is down to what gauge spring is used. 15g through to 17 gauge. Mattresses have different numbers of springs to create different "feels" but mainly so adjust the quality of a mattress.
But even that can go out the window a 1000 springs can be just as good as a 2000, because most 2000 springs are 2 layers of 1000 each, so springs per square inch that you lie are is the same.
Generally the more springs the more support the mattress could give you as you have more "stuff" underneath you holding the body weight.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

bought a double tempur mattress [ had major spine op.] and was best thing ever, I know it retains body heat , so I used a lower tog downie but found that feather/down mix was far cooler than man made fibers ,same goes for pillows,
had a ortapedic mattress with a good quality memory foam topper which was ok at first but still too hard after 1 year, tried a tempur at family members home and ordered one next day for myself ,even with more damage to spine ,I have great sleep and no pressure pain.
the secret is natural fibers to be cool and comfortable.0
