Not sure where this came from, firstly Philips do not, and never have made a DVD-RAM recorder.
Secondly -RAM is the most reliable (but least compatible) of the three RW formats, and the one with the most functionality. RAM discs are good for 100,000 rewrites, -RW and +RW only 1000 (and in my experience the RW formats often only work reliably for 50 or so rewrites depending on what media you use). It simply isn't possible for a digital media to record partially on a disc such that you can see an image of a previous recording below the current one, regardless of format.0 -
I bought one of the Sainsbury's £100 Philips 880 DVD Recorders last September, nothing but trouble from day one. Had 2 firmware updates from Philips and machine developed even more faults, finally returned it to Sainsbury's in January for a refund and was told that they had as many of this model returned for refund as they sold.. A pity because when it did record the quality was great and now having returned to recording on VHS video the quality of recording is disappointing. Have seen the Panasonic DMRE55 DVD Recorder on sale at £160 and am tempted to buy it but like bosey wonder if I should hold off until the machines come down in price?0

Paying £60 more and going for the panasonic E55 from richer sounds or boots would be a better option - Panasonic use ram discs as posted above and they are brill. A much better machine and well worth the extra money I think:j :j0

open tray (ensure it’s empty)
close tray
press dvd/rec
press return
press info
press 8880
message appears then disappears in few secs. You are ready to watch any region.
Hope that helps!
Works perfectly, thanks mc! *Mwahhh!* :jThought is creative. Think beautiful thoughts, create a beautiful world.0 -
We rent our main TV, video and in the last free upgrade, we have been given a DVD recorder instead of the player we used. The player was multi format, the recorder isn't.
I have a couple of questions -- If I hack the recorder, can I restore it to it's original settings if it goes back to the shop?
- The recorder is a Samsung DVD-R100E, can you tell me where I would find the hack instructions please?

1) Usually, yes, if it's a remote control hack rather than a chip.
2) I also have a Samsung 100E, but have been unable to find a hack for it. As it is based on a Panasonic recorder I think the only way of making it multiregion is with a mod chip, which will cost money.
It would probably be just as cost-effective to buy a cheap DVD player and use this for US DVDs. These can be picked up for £20-25 now and are almost always multiregion hackable -- most are multiregion out of the box.0 -
can you keep this thread on topic, please guys - if you want to discuss dvd hacks in general Grabbit is not the place for it. Thankyou0

Thanks mrme for the advice on the Panasonic E55. I wonder when Boots next double or triple points offer will be on which will bring the price down further0
