NEW Mortgage Exit Fees Discussion

How long are the Mortgage Co´s required to keep information on Customers Accounts, as Kensington say that they cannot find anything. I paid off mortgage in 2003, and have asked for the MEAF back, but they say their charges were fine and not over the top...0

It would appear that my mortgage provider has overcharged me for my mortgage exit fees - I will be claiming that back due to the excellent info on this site.
However, when I was having trouble paying my mortgage due to my divorce etc they have charged me double what they said they would for returned direct debits etc - £30 instead of £15 - Does anybody know if I can claim this back? Also if I can claim it back, will it be along the same lines as the unfair bank charges, IE it doesnt cost them even £15 so I could claim back more?
Thanks in advance0 -
Is there much success with Britannia at the moment?
Finally got around to ringing them (been meaning to for ages), and they were very efficient - as soon as I said the words 'mortgage exit fee' the operator went straight into the complaints form and took the details.
Apparently they have 20 days to deal with it, but try to make contact in 5 days just to acknowledge everything.
Just wondered whether this will be it - and what sort of figures they are paying out (I have none of my final documentation to see what I was charged).DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Hi - this is my first time posting, so here goes.
I had a secured loan, in my name only, with first plus which i was forced to settle as i was remorgaging but with my partner. This loan has been referred to as a second mortgage/charge. I have the service charges literature which was sent to me at the time that I took out the loan, clearly stating that the early repayment fee is £50. They have charged me £150. I have written to them and sent the copy of the charges but they have written back saying its now gone up you were informed. Does the reclaim of MEF apply in this case?
I would be grateful for any input. Thanks0 -
It would apply, if your secured lender was FSA regulated. But they are not:[SIZE=-1]FIRSTPLUS is regulated by the FSA for the sale of general insurance only.0

Hi - this is my first posting.
Thought I drop a line to say that it did take me 5 minutes to make a call (ON 26th Nov 07) to Alliance & Leicester to reclaim MEAF for my mortgage (Apr02 to Jun04) and I had a cheque in the post back from A&L for £155.00 (on 28th Nov 07).:T :money: :j
I'm now trying to reclaim MEAF on my earlier mortgage with a previous lender, I think it's Halifax, which I sold that property back in Apr 2000. I'd like to know if there's time retsrictions on this MEAF claim? Any statutory limits? Any idea?

hi this is all new to me and looking for help with what to do next..
In 2004 i swiched mortgage from tsb to platform mortgages and had a cash advance included in the total..then without me knowing after only a few years thay moved it to another lender called derbyshire home loans..after enquiring if thay could do this i was told thay could,im not sure how much the exit fees where but i seem to remember there was a significant amount added to the total balance. is there any way i can find these out, many thanks.taffi0 -
Thanks MSE , had an Abbey mortgage from autumn 2002 until early 2006 just received a cheque for £130.
From phone call, asking for form to receiving cheque 10days.
10 minutes to fill in form and post it.
Now have to chase up Bradford and Bingley.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Just a quick update on the Britannia (post #966).
After calling on the 3rd, I received their standard 'we're looking into it' letter a couple of days later, and a cheque yesterday.
Only £25 for me, but to be honest I wasn't expecting much if anything, so it's very welcome, especially at this time of year.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
