If the charge stated in your mortgage papers is less than you were actually charged then i think you would be entitled to something back. I suggest you check your papers if you cant find them give them a quick call to find out.

  • I'm confused :confused::confused: I paid £195 redemption fee to move from one Scottish Widows Mortgage to a new Scottish Widows Mortgage. I dod not have to pay an "early replyment charge as i got this waivered due tot he fact that i was in the last 3 months of the 2 year fixed. They told me that a redemption fee would be £195 on monthly mortgage statements so i take it this is not reclaimable. Also they charge me £132 fore "interest to date of redemption? any advise would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

Does this also apply to "Product Fees" applied when I last renegotiated my fixed rate mortgage?

Sorry muletman, what is the question? Early repayment fees are valid fees and they stand if you have been charged that.

Only place where its written that matters is your orginal mortgage documentation, not any subsequent monthly statements.

The interest sounds like the interest accumulated between your last normal mortgage payment to the date the mortgage was paid off on. I'm not 100% on this though.

If you switched from one Scottish Widows mortgage to another, you haven't been charged an MEAF and you can't reclaim anything.

MEAFs are explicitly only charged when you redeem a mortgage. Switching mortgage products, on the same property, isn't redeeming a mortgage.
  • Hi everyone :hello: I have just registered onto this forum to ask a question regarding re claiming the mortgage exit fees, I'm slightly confused

Me and my partner had a mortgage with C&G and it was taken out in May 2005 and had a fixed rate for 3 years. We re-mortgaged the property in December 2006 and went with Northern Rock. I do understand that we had to pay a penalty fee as we re-mortgaged within the 3 year fixed period but are we entitled to claim back this exit fee?????

    Your help will be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Claire

P.S We have just received a credit into our bank account from LLoyds TSB for £1200 as we followed your advice Martin and claimed back the unlawful charges so A BIG THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICE ON THAT ONE!! :T
