  • I am so confused, We redeemed our mortgage in 2006 and I phoned Barclays who have now taken over the Woolwich, they said we had been charged £275.00 for the fee and that that is not refundable as it was the right amount! Is this correct? has anyone else tried them? Nicx

hi...sorry if this question has aleady been asked...just came across website today, fab it is too! and running out to work..so havent had chance to read all pages but i dont want to miss out.....we have had 4 mortages since 1991 and just about to switch again.......is there a time limit to claiming....ie can we check our first mortage from 1991 and is there any cut off date for claiming

    thanks

There's no time limit, so once you have your details then start making your claims if applicable

How much was the MEAF when you started your Barclays/Woolwich mortgage?
  • I have redeemed a BTL mortgage and got charged £150 in Admin fees.

Has anyone has any experience of reclaiming these fees back een though BTL is not covered by FSA ruling ?

    Help / advice appreciated

    Thanks

I conacted Barclays today by phone on the number listed here only to be told that we had never been charged an exit fee:confused:

Not that I dont trust Barclays or anything but is this a new dodging tactic?

or has anyone else eperienced the same?

cant talk to my new mortage provider at the mo so cant find out if this is the case.
hi, i have just spoken to someone on the halifax hotline number listed. I too paid off my mortgage in july of 2003, and then bought another house 5 months later with a tiny mortgage on it. because i dont have any documentation with the previous properties mortgage number on it i was informed(after the chappy had stated he had checked for me on computer) that as my mortgage was paid off due to my husbands passing away there wouldnt have been any exit fees as they waive them when when a mortgage holder dies.he admitted he couldnt find my details on the previous property but that it was policy not to charge exit fees in such circumstances but i seem to recall it being mentioned that i WOULD have to pay the ususal exit fees. The reason im answering your message is that i was told that not being charged fees only applies to paying out on deaths. hope this helps in some small way.

hi, im hoping that someone might be able to help me. my husband passed away back in 2002 and with the insurance money paid out to myself i decided to pay off the oustanding mortgage on that property. I seem to recall at the time that i was charged by the halifax an exit fee but i dont have any correspondence relating to that property that has the mortgage number on it. I bought another house some months later and took out a very tiny mortgage(still with halifax). On speaking to someone on the halifax exit fees hotline number today i was told that as i dont have the mortgage number on that other property then they are not always able to find the relevant details, when i explained that i paid the mortgage off with the mortgage insurance money relating to my husbands death he told me that in such incidences the mortgage exit fees do not apply. he states that the halifax waive such fees on death, this might well be the case but i cant help thinking that as i didnt have the old mortgage number anyway and he said he couldnt trace the details that i have just been fobbed off, does anyone have any ideas as to what i should do now? if anything?. thanks in advance.

Lenders certainly aren't meant to charge ERCs (early repayment charges) on mortgages if they are redeemed due to a death. But I wasn't aware that this also applied to MEAFs.

My mortage with the C&G started in 2000 and in 2005 we changed it, still staying with C&G and then moved to the Chelsea in Aprill this year. I rang C&G up last week and they told me I wasn't due anything because when we changed product in '05, we would have been quoted the higher fee. I wasn't convinced and dug out the paperwork from 2005 and it clearly says Closing Fee of £180 and I was charged £225 in April.

I've just spoken to them again and because it still says on their computers that I'm not entitled to anything but I've got written proof, a very helpful lady has put a complaint through for me. Seems like it might take a while to get a repsonse - 5 days before they confirm receipt of the complaint, then could take up to 4 weeks to be resolved, but its worth the wait!

If its possible, dig out old paperwork if you've still got it and check yourself instead of relying on what the banks/bs tell you - they MAY be wrong! ;-)

Not only did I receive a letter from the C&G within 5 days confirming receipt of my complaint, it also said they'd checked their files and I was correct and was due a refund of £45. I received the cheque today AND it included interest!! Well done C&G

there is a hotline number for the halifax listed on this thread, i have tried again but got a similar response in that as soon as i said i didnt have the old mortgage roll number they couldnt trace the records, does anyone know at all where i should write too as regards this matter? i just feel i might get further if i put it down in writing. thanks.
