There's no entitlement to 8% for reclaiming MEAFs or anything else.
I'd suggest asking for the rate of interest on the mortgage, as that is what you've actually paid on the over-charged amount. Anything more than that is illogical.0 -
I arranged a mortgage in June 05 with BIM, and had the contract stated a release fee of 195. When i remortgaged last year i was indeed charged 195. Can i still claim back any fees as i still think this fee is high for the work involved??
Thanks0 -

Can't find where I asked this q before, sorry not too good at this! But can anyone advise me why I have to pay the discharge of mortgage fee in whole to Northern Rock who then advise that they cannot do the job as I live in Scotland so must pay a solicitor to deal with the discharge for me?0
-
Because the fee is not to cover the work your solicitor will have to do. The fee is a condition of your mortgage - it is irrelevant what they have to do.0

I moved from A & L to Nationwide last year and saved myself almost 200 quid on this fee alone thanks to this site.
Cheers !2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
Just been offered a full refund of MEAF from Northern Rock. They offered £60 not including interest. Wrote back and requested increased offer to include interest and "goodwill" gesture. Have offered £175 as their policy is not to continue disputes with customers! Get your letter in and push for the interest. This brings my grand total to £300. I have received refunds from Cheltenham and Gloucester and Newcastle Building Society.
Thanks Martin for the template letters and highlighting this.0 -
Hi All.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm looking to get rid of my A&L tracker and go for a fixed rate. A&L tell me there is no redemption penatly, but there is an "Admin Fee" of about £200. I heard that I could get them to wave this or claim it back......anyone know how??
Thanks

John if £200 is what you agreed to, i.e. in your mortgage offer letter, then there is nothing to claim back.0 -
Indeed it may not be an MEAF, but a product switch fee. In which case it is not waivable or reclaimable at all.0
