We've just phoned and they are asking for a huge amount of information, we don't have any of it any more. She did say that the fee was £150 but we needed to write with all this info, do we or is she wrong? And if she is wrong, what do we do now?

She said we were owed £150 on the phone but they needed a lot of information about final amounts, dates we ended the mortgage, term, rates. Argh... we have nothing

I am coming to the end of my fixed rate with Northern Rock and my redemption statement lists a discharge fee of £250. Whilst this was probably listed on my agreement, I can't help thinking that it's a bit steep considering they're practically turfing me out, yet I have to pay to leave. They are not offering me a competitive product to stay, they want rid of me, so why should I have to pay to leave? They obviously need the money but does anyone think I can get them to reduce/waive this fee, has anyone had any luck with similar recent discharge fees?
No, they're not "practically turfing you out". You took a short-term fixed rate and you knew that the go-to rate would be their SVR.

They don't have to offer you a switch.

You still have to pay the MEAF.
• Hi there,

Could you let me know if this is applicable to mortgages that have come to the end of term?

Thanks
• Hi I ended my mortgage early with my former lender and they charged me about £6500 redemption fee. Can i get any of that back?

Any advice would be great!

Typically MEAFs are not charged if the mortgage runs full term

That's an early repayment charge, not a MEAF, so 'no' is the answer.
• Hi there,

Just a quicky post as I'm swimming in paperwork :rotfl:

I am planing on claiming my £225 mortgage administration fee from Abbey, but notice they also charged me £75 transfer fee, which I had to pay by cheque. Is this something I can claim back also, or is it just the admin fee?

Thanks in advance for responses - PM me if this q's been asked to death, I've browsed the thread & can't find anything about transfer fees, but then my eyes are nipping from reading the afore mentioned paperwork :rotfl:

editing my post to include:
Now I'm really confused! I've looked on my mortgage contract and it says £225 Mortgage administration fee... I'm gathering that when doing the letter I should put
"My contract with you stated a MEAF of £0, however, I was actually charged £225. I believe this unexpected increase does not reflect the true cost to Abbey of covering the staff and administration costs involved and I believe I have been unlawfully deprived of the money."

Can someone confirm if this is the correct wording? I have the letter sitting ready to print off. I'm so rubbish at all this stuff!
