Hi all
Have just spoken to the Halifax who have agreed to send me a cheque for £75, which is good going considering I only had the mortgage for 3 years.
Am going to write to Northern Rock now to see if I can get anything back from them too!
Many thanks Martin, am a big fan!0 -

The honourable exceptions being the other 1%, I suppose. Mark - being an obnoxious know-it-all does not mean that you don't know about the subject; it becomes obnoxious when you adopt the attitude that everyone else (or 99% of everyone else) is wrong or knows less than you.MarkyMarkD wrote: »Why not walk into Tesco and steal some food on the way home too? Both are equally morally justifiable.
Oh my goodness! Mark, that is a 'straw man' argument - the favourite tactic of a person who likes to put others down and make themselves look good. I would never EVER condone theft of material goods from an individual or a corporation - please NEVER imply again that my statements or arguments support such an act.

I have just received a letter from the Abbey saying that:Having considered this carefully I regret that you are ineligible for a refund.
The reason for this is that the terms of your mortgage clearly specified a Mortgage Repayment Fee of £99.
I did get a full refund from the Nationwide without any problems... Any ideas were I should go from here...0 -

You could read Martins article again which makes it clear that it is only the difference you can claim.
As there was no difference there is nothing to refund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Does anyone know anything about Bradford & Bingley's Mortgage Exit Fees? Both myself and my parents bought our houses in 1997. We both wrote to the B&B to request back any fees we might have paid (neither of us knew if we had or not). My mum got a refund and I got a letter saying I didn't pay a fee. Just wondered if anyone has any info on circumstances where fees would be paid or not and maybe if they stopped charges customers fees at some point?0

It maybe a case that you paid what was quoted in your mortgage documenation so no refund was necessary, but the fee may have risen in your mother's case - it will depend when your sepearte mortgages were repaid.0 -
Hello,
I took out an endowment mortgage with Leeds BS (now Halifax ??) in 1994.
When we saw that the endowment (plus other insurance policies !!) were not performing as we first thought we cashed them all in added some extra £££ and paid off the mortgage. We did this sometime in 1998/99 and have now destroyed all of the documentation - so we no longer have any of the references  All we know is that the mortgage was taken out in March/April 1994 but that's all !!
Is there any hope of putting in a claim ??????
Cheers,
Peter0
