Hi, I'm sure one of you amazing, talented and knowledgeable old style money savers out there will be able to answer this question.

Is it safe to dye baby clothes?

I have brought a Dylon Hand wash fabric dye to dye some of our pink clothes blue, (as we didn't get what we expected!!!! x) but I'm a little scared incase it's not safe.

Please help x Many thanks

    Hi - I think as long as you follow the instructions, mainly so that the dye is "fixed" properly and subsequently rinsed properly, it should be perfectly safe. (Personally, I'd give the clothes a couple of extra washes after dying them, just to make sure!)
    But if you're still unsure, why not speak to Dylon;
    "If you need any advice our friendly colour experts will be happy
    to help. Just call us on 01737 781300 or email us on info@dylon.co.uk"

    HTH :)

    If anyone else is interested in this - I spoke to Dylon and even though it is stated as safe to dye baby clothes, the customer services advisor advised against it as it can be an irritant to there skin!

    Don't forget it will only dye cotton, and anything pink will go lilac / purple rather than blue because of the origianl colour.

    I dyed all my girl babygros and cot sheets for my son to reuse. he never had any problems - just remember though that pink and blue give lilac or purple colours (but you can buy dye remover that will take plain fabric back to its original colour so it dyes to the intended shade).
  • Someone on the pregnancy thread had dyed quite a few items as they didn't like the traditional pink for their little girl and had no problems. My guess would be that the company don't want to recommend and then your LO has an allergic reaction.
