Debt recovery - wrong person & address

Raffers

I received a letter through the mail today from a Debt Collection agency in Glasgow addressed to a different individual.
My partner of almost 2 years is still legally married to her husband, even though they amicably parted company in every respect over 5 years ago. She has lived with me and is on the voters roll at this address for over a year.
The letter was addressed to him at this address. I suppose I shouldn't have opened it, but his first name is the same as mine (albeit with different spelling) and I thought perhaps it had been a name error by the poster.
It was a final warning letter for repayment of outstanding loan amount of £113 to Greenwood Personal Credit.
I called the number and explained to the guy on the line the above situation. My guess is that Equifax or whoever have made a tenuous link between his debt and him still being technically married to my partner and that she is listed as living with me at this address.
The reason for my post is to seek reassurance that this will not have any adverse credit impact to my property or my own abilities to borrow in the future. The debt collection company just mumbled some apology and said they'd amend their records. I think I need more reassurance than that.
Anyone?
Thanks.

Records of bad debts are linked to a person's name, not to addresses/properties any more.
His debt should not harm your record.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

That's a relief to know. So, no need to pay to check my credit file for this then?:j Thanks.0

No. There should be no incorrect link as your surname and first name are not the same.
Saying that, there sometimes are some odd admin errors with CRAs that result in entires under the wrong name going on the wrong report. Not common though.
I mention that ^^^ for completeness, not because it's likely to have happened.
However, if you were thinking of getting your credit reports any time soon, then perhaps this would be a time to bring that forward? Just as a precaution? As I said, it shouldn't show anything but.....Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
