Modern diesels are becoming a nightmare.

Trying to get too much power from them, Wheres all that famous diesel torque gone. I dont remember old fashioned diesels stalling as easily as modern ones.
They have to have antistall systems now.

100rpm over tickover should give you 80%+ of the engines max torque.
Wonder how long it will be before production diesels rev to 10,000 rpm?
And start producing power from 6000rpm.

    So it's a '55 plate, registration from Nov 2005.

At 7 years old most of the major components have reached the end of their design life.

If you require a long warranty buy a new or nearly new car.

Hey Alias - thanks for that, though I know it. That's what makes it so strange, no-one can tell me why the air con goes off at the same time as the radiator runs dry/leaks into the engine.

I don't doubt the mechanics know what they're talking about, but by the same token my story is true. It isn't coincidence either - on one long trip, the air con stopped working, I pulled into services and checked the radiator which had nothing but steam in it. I added water (engine overheat light was on) then the air con ALSO worked. No-one knows why. It cannot be something a mechanic has done, it has to be a Nissan fault.

Maybe the ecu cuts back non essential systems when it detects the engine is overheating.Air con is a drain on the engine, forcing it to work harder so shutting it off would help get temps back.
