I'm either really tight or its relatively cheaper here... I shopped around and did my research. For 6 prince edwards + everything incl insurance apart from shoes cost £450. For every 4 suits we got one free... Shop around

I'm feeling a bit tight/MSE now....we did a wee bit of shopping around and found a shop where we got trousers, jacket, waistcoat, tie/cravat, shirt and cuflinks for £59, and an extra 10% off if we paid in full so we got 5 sets for £265. Even without the 10% this was £20 cheaper than the next cheapest we saw, and the suits were actually the nicest. The dearest we found was £89 (and then extra for the tie?!), ignoring "best-woman" suit which was £92 as hers had to be bought from Next to match in with the mens suits, the less said about that the better!

Personally I am not a huge fan of the whole 'matching suit' thing. Can you not ask them to wear their own and perhaps provide waistcoats or ties which match? Failing that I would buy them and let them know you intend to sell the set off after to make some money back?

Sounds a lot to me! We paid £97 per suit, including buying the cravat and hanky outright as the hire shop didn't stock them in the right colour, and if we'd bought more than 5 the groom would have gone free, so for 8 suits we would have paid no more than £700 or so. That was from a local bridal shop.

I understand the groom and the best man.....but why does everyone else need to be matching? both fathers? If it's too expensive can't they wear their own suits?
  • At ours we paid for groom (obviously) and had budgeted for best men (he had 2 of them) but they ended up offering to pay for themselves. Ushers wore their own suits (we had one male, one female usher) and the page boy be bought a waistcoat and cravat from BHS. He wore his school trousers and shoes. Our dads wore suits they already had. Neither my dad nor FIL would have been comfortable in the suit DH chose to wear.

Echoing what others have said, if you want everyone in monring suits then you should pay, but if you want to avoid this big cost, then suggest that the men wear their own suits and buy matching ties / hire waistcoats etc.

That includes everything right? We are ordering 6 adult tailcoats, including waistcoat, shirt, trousers, cravat and hanky, cufflinks and shoes and it came to £80 each. That was with a bit of haggling too... He added 20% student discount to the first price and neither of us students anymore haha! So it's about £480 in total. It sounds a lot of money but luckily all the men have agreed to pay for each of their's which is very kind and helpful :)

my feelings on the whole wedding thing are that if you want something specific you pay for it

ie. if you want the bridesmaids in something particular you buy it
if you want particular suits you pay for it

we have the most wonderful friends who have agreed that if we hire suits then we all agree we (bride & groom) should pay. but if we could BUY matching suits then they would pay for their own as they can wear them again. thankfully M&S do a big and tall range to suit my partner and my dad and matching "normal" sizes for the bestmen

we are paying £160 to hire 7 waist coats cravats & hankies and insure them.
