I am getting married this summer. I have very pale skin, not lovely porcelain Anne Hathaway skin though, I've got quite blotchy upper arms! So I would like a very subtle tan, just to take the edge off my whiteness. I've been considering this and it's a good price atm, has anyone used it?

OP - I wouldn't use sunbeds, it is NOT worth the risk. And it gives you mega wrinkles! I have a friend who uses sunbeds and her skin is horrendous - so many lines at only 31!!!

To the last poster - you could try Dove Tinted body moisturiser. I occasionally use that - it's more moisturiser than colour but just gives you a little hint of colour without looking like you've been tangoed. It comes in various shades and I buy the lightest. It makes your skin lovely and soft.

Talking about sun damage - I live near a woman who spent all her hippy years living in Ibiza. She'd be about 60 now. You have NEVER seen skin like hers. It is thick and so wrinkled and looks like an old piece of leather. I have seen people just staring at her because they've never seen the like before.

By contrast my Mum is 88 and Irish and barely has a wrinkle. Everybody compliments her on her lovely skin.

Note: As soon as you expose your skin to the sun you are burning it and it will be damaged.

Aw, what's so sweet Pennylane! It's true that the sun is the most damaging thing for skin, that and smoking.I have tried Dove, Garnier, Johnson's etc. They're alright but the colour is a little orange, and my elbows ALWAYS go darker!!! I've been buffing them like mad, and will practise before the big day, and use extra moisturiser on them. :o

MAC face and body foundation takes the edge off the pale and evens out skin tone, its waterproof too, oil free and can easily be layered, colours are different to the normal MAC range so a visit to a main MAC counter may be needed:)

Not quite, we all need some sun exposure to get enough Vitamin D.

That only takes about 20 minutes a day though, with face and lower arms exposed.

  • I can understand why many people are drawn into sunbeds, but I would really consider using fake tan instead. Trinitia does amazing fake tan, which gives a natural look instead of an orange appearance - it's my favourite fake tan. I have really sensitive skin so going on a sunbed terrifies me. If you would like to see my fake tan review that has pics of before and after let me know :)

I used sunbeds last year before my wedding but not to get a tan, more to prepare my super pale skin for the sunshine since we were getting married abroad! :o I'd noticed before on holidays that no matter what SPF I used and how much I covered up that I still burnt and got a heat rash in the first week but as my skin got used to the sun/heat it got better by the second week. Using the sun bed (and I only did 3 minutes at a time, about 6 sessions over a 4 week period, so not excessive) really helped me. I would never use them regularly and count on them for getting a tan though :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!
