advance in pay

My son has been on a apprenticeship for the past year for which he got paid weekly, he now has got a job which he gets paid monthly so his 1st pay is not for 2 months as he has to work a month laying on. He has a flat of his own which he has to run, is there anywhere he can go for help, he has to buy suits etc, and food gas and electricity, any help would be very grateful. Thank you

How is he not getting paid for 2 months?

Normally monthly pay is at the end of the month just worked, I get paid for April on the last Friday of the month for example.

Working a month in hand is not quite the same as working a week in hand

Have you been told he won't get paid for 8 weeks? Or are you assuming?

Starting this early in the month it shouldn't be a problem to get him on the payroll system and most monthly employees get paid at the end of the month for that months work.

Worst case should really be a month and a half given payroll cut off is normally 2 weeks before payday and so if you start the day after the cut off you have 1 month and just shy of 2 weeks to wait.

That said, if he has been living hand to mouth then it probably doesnt make much difference if it is 1.5 months or 2 months.

Presumably friends and family are the first port of call for the lowest interest option. The last thing you really want to be doing it running up big debts at the start of your career as you are then forever chasing your tail trying to get them cleared.

So that should mean that he will get paid at the end of the month for the month that he has just worked.

Then as the person above me says then he will likely get paid at the end of May for Mays work. It might be paid another time of the month (say 5th or 2nd Friday) depending on the company or industry but he should get paid in week 4-6 or so.

So he'll get paid at the end of the month for the month's work he's just done.

Most monthly pay "in arrears" is actually a slight blend of arrears and advanced.

Last few companies I worked for paid monthly "in arrears" on the 25th of the month. You therefore actually were paid for up to the 25th in arrears and the last few days of the month were technically in advance.
