As this is a practical course and you would need to spend a large amount of time learning and developing your skills by practising on real volunteers, I can't see the benefit of doing a DL course, even if it fits in with your lifestyle.
Perhaps some one would let you train part time on the job as it were.
Beauty therapists do tend to work long hours including Saturdays and evenings so have you thought about the implications for your family life in the long term. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
hi,
thanks for the reply, i hve a lot of volunteers that would let me practice on them and the distance learning fits around my job and family life great so this would be the better option for me.
i know they work long hours but i wouldnt be doing it full-time, id be self-employed as a mobile therapist and would make sure my family life wasnt implicated, also most of my clients would be my family and friends anyway who usually go to a beauty salon, so this would be even better for me as i could take my daughter with me if i was doing family or friend.0 -
The problem is that you would need to be supervised whilst you practice - do you know anyone that could fulfil this role?0

the course im wanting to do is a ncfe one, no ones needs to watch me, they send me the course, i work through the units and send each unit back to the to mark, obviously i would need to take photos of the wrk ive done and i would have a tutor available to speak to during working hours0

To be honest, the fact that you can do the course by DL doesn't necessarily mean it is the right way to go.
You might want to check out the insurance premiums for a newly qualified mobile beauty therapist. Inexperience can sometimes be expensive. If you work for a salon then you would not have that expense.
Also, working with experienced people can help you learn the best way to do things. Often stuff you can't get from books. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -

You can't get a grant for this kind of course and the qualification won't be recognised without accredited practical work.0 -

Wouldn't taking your daughter remove one of the best bits of having a beauty treatment -the relaxation? I wouldn't say it's a good move as a huge part of people having these treatments is the relaxation and peace that comes with it.
That aside,I don't think there would be any grants available and I'd be wary of any practical distance learning course in which there is nobody to supervise the practical procedures. If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

I have to admit I'd rather save up for a salon treatment than have one with a kid there, especially if the mum has to leave me and go off and deal with the kid occasionally!
OP - I carry out grant searches as part of my job and there really is not much out there at the moment. There is also a lot of competition for the grants. The trusts tend to state that it must be an accredited course etc. They also usually state that the course must benefit the community or a particular group in some way, or involve research in an area of interest to the trust. There are occasionally grants for particular professions, but I have never seen anything for these types of courses.0
