Debt - that isn't owed!

thank you all -
Vax2002 - I've just penned another letter asking for the details, I'd love to have the confidence to demand! But I'm sure as hec going to try!!
I did write to them last autumn saying that unless I heard etc within 3 months I would consider the matter over so really surprised by this letter ( suppose I wasn't legally allowed to do this!)
thanks again0 -
yes - it's still going on!
the supplier is asking for payment of invoice 1, 2 and 3. we've paid invoice 1 ( over paid) and invoice 2 - but after sorting through all the paperwork find that we owe invoice number 3 ( cheque not cleared 3 years ago) - but we've also found out that the credits we were due were not allocated - so dispute the amount of invoice 3. The supplier insists we have not paid invoice 1 or 2 - which we have and sent statements to prove this - but they insist that we still owe them the money as they allocated our cheques to wrong invoices . In May we'd had enough of this, ie letters all the time saying we owed the money , so we decided to pay them invoice 3 less the over payment from invoice 1 - as full and final settlement to give closure to the whole stressful situation.
they banked the cheque then 15 days later wrote to us telling us they were classing the cheque as a part payment!!!! and that we now had an outstanding balance of £1500. Although at this stage they could only quantify £950.00 of the debt ( nearly the amount of invoice 1 and 2??) ............ what does that mean?
I'm worried but at the same getting more and more angry especially as we're going through a difficult time at home.
Any advice would be really appreciated -
thanks in advance0 -
Have you thought of contacting inland revenue and asking if they regarded him as employed ?
If they say he was and they were pulling a self employment scam they will have no legal right to anything.Be happy...;)0 -
I am not a solicitor. I think you could argue that they should have returned your cheque if they weren't prepared to accept it as full and final.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
