Do I have to PAYE?

Do all employees have to pay tax through PAYE, or is there a way of 'contracting out' and settling the tax bill at the year end aka self-employed.

All employees are dealt with under the PAYE Income Tax systems, with no ability to opt-out.

Thank you Aark, it was just one of those niggling questions I occasionally find myself seeking an answer to but haven't.

While I can see the merits of PAYE I do think that more people would take an interest in where their money (taxation) was spent if they actually had to pay the money as a bill, like council tax or a utility bill, etc. I think that the vast majority merely look at the net figure without thinking about the deductions made at source.

Naturally tax must be paid, but better consciously than subconciously.

    Thanks again.
