My Dad has come to stay for a few nights, has brought 4 salmon fillets one pack is dated 29/4 and the other 30/4, neither have been frozen, he says will be fine to eat... Im a bit wary of fish/seafood at best of times - what say the wise Old Stylers??

If they smell OK I would use them, and then taste a tiny bit. There is no mistaking off fish it has a strong ammonia smell.Slimming World at target0

As we can't see/smell them, people on an internet forum really can't possibly make the decision for you.
If I were you, I'd look at them....if they look ok, then I'd give them a good sniff. If they smell ok then I'd cook them and then taste a little bit before serving them.
It really is your decision. Personally I wouldn't be keen. I'll add your thread to our main food safety thread later.

I'd go for it. But....Don't blame me though if you get the runs. Smell test and feel it as well. Rinse and cook well.:footie:

As it turns out 'sniff it and see' was the way to go... blergh!!! They looked fine but once the pack was opened and the fillets prodded there was a strong, not good smell. They have been relegated to the freezer and will go out in the rubbish next week!!
I've never actually had a 'sniff it and see' test come out so clear, usually Im still left wondering but good to know its a reliable method for future reference0 -
But fish that smells isnt fresh anyway. You go straight to the port side where they have just landed fresh fish and it smells nothing like supermarket fish which has been around for a few days already. This is more an indication of how crap supermarket packed fish is.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
