That is not what we are talking about. These are people who through illness, accident or birth defects have serious, debilitating problems.

To put it into context in my area covering hundreds of thousands of people the total annual budget is £40,000 to cover all work. That is about one serious reconstruction a year.

Thats fine. As long as we are not splashing out on new gnashers for those people who have poor hygiene and fail to look after their mouths/teeth/gums and therefore end up with gum disease, skanky teeth and foul breath.

    How rude are you? :naughty:

Hey HGG, I'm 20 and also have 7 missing adult teeth (not due to poor dental hygiene) due to oligodontia too. Like you, I was never really informed of how serious this is characterised!

Anyway, after a couple of years of going backwards and forth between my orthodontist and general dentist, I was referred to a dental clinic in a hospital to pursue the idea of implants. As you said, we fit the criteria - but the funding has to be applied for at the PCT and it could still be rejected due to lack of funds.

At the moment, I am awaiting an operation in July to remove the last of my baby teeth, which have fused to my bone and are submerging into my gums, and then after that I am being referred again to the clinic where it'll be decided what they're doing finally!

They have said I will need bone grafts if I have implants and have suggested a combination of implants and just standard bridges as my gaps are spaced out all around my mouth.

Hope this helps & I hope people understand we're not just tramps who don't brush our teeth :rotfl:

wow, absolutely did not expect to here from someone else with the same condition. I sincerely hope everything goes as you hope! If everything goes as I hope, I may have to PM you for some advice :D

As for me, big thanks to you and to b2j for the help and advice. I have booked a consultation with my dentist on tuesday and will have to take it from there. I hope i'm seen as a good candidate, i'm in good health, the teeth i have are healthy and i've never smoked. But ultimately i guess it'll be a PCT financial decision.

Will post again with outcome of consult.

oh yeah and as for C_Mababejive, attitudes like yours are exactly why this treatment should be and is available on the nhs. I hope you can see this rather than spouting ill-informed "not with my tax money" c*ap

Yeah sorry about that! I'm not a regular on this forum and only joined as seen the other thread when I googled! I will keep my eye on it now though! Hope it all goes to plan for you HGG, but yeah PCT's decision ultimately which is a shame but at least if we don't get it - it will be as someone with worse problems needs the funding instead, which I am more than ok with! :)

My operation is 17th July and then will have to wait for a consultant appointment again after that (after my mouths healed), so I won't have any more news for a while!!
